"Attaining NIC credits that transfer for a baccalaureate degree was an important goal for me. I have come to realize that I can trust NIC to give me the right start to achieve my goal. I am thankful for the wide variety of programs that NIC has to offer. I appreciate learning in small classes from instructors who see teaching as their primary responsibility."

“Based on convenience and cost, it was really easy for me to choose the educational leadership program at the University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene. I could take the majority of my classes online, which is a nice option when you work an 80-hour work week, you have four kids, and you’re trying to keep a balance in your life. That flexibility worked really well for me.
The superintendent credential gives me another option for professional development and professional growth. I went from being a teacher and a coach to an activities/athletic director and then to building administrator. And if down the road I want to look at a superintendent position, I now have that option.”

“I decided to go into environmental science after being a travel agent for 30 years because I really wanted to teach people they can live in harmony with nature. The best thing about the environmental science program at the University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene is that I’ve been able to finish my degree without leaving my home and job in Sandpoint. The faculty are very supportive and always available to help. If you can do e-mail, you can do online classes.”

Alaina Adeline Alters is currently pursuing a Masters of Education degree in School Counseling and Psychology at the University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene. She was born and raised in St. Maries, Idaho, where she was active in many clubs and activities during her high school career, including being a varsity cheerleader for four years. She was St. Maries Junior Miss in 2001, and was also Homecoming Queen her senior year. Upon graduation, she attended Boise State University and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Once Alaina obtained her degree, she pursued a career working with children who suffered from mental illness as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist. She re-located with her husband to North Idaho in 2007 and continued to work with children. She found a great need for stronger intervention techniques within the school environment, thus she decided to further her education in Counseling and Psychology. During her free time, Alaina enjoys cooking, gardening, camping, boating, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.

"School fell right into place, so I went with it. It wasn't just getting an education, it was also learning new job skills with an actual future. The more educated a person is, the more opportunities they have, which usually translates into a person being more involved in their community."

“The education that I received at LCSC was second to none. The instructors are masters of champions in their own career field at the same time they are teaching. It was a breath of fresh air to be instructed from current practices and not just a text book.
The flexibility of the classes allowed me to keep my daily routine the same and not have to worry about jeopardizing seniority by changing my work schedule. The small class sizes ensured that I received real face-to-face time and was never just another name on a roster.”

“As a recent graduate of your Bachelor’s in Business program I wanted to share with you the positive impact that going to Lewis Clark State College (LCSC) has had on my life. I am 34 years old and the mother of two boys (my youngest is five!) I completed my Associates Degree at North Idaho College and struggled to find the time to further my education beyond that. The evening and internet classes that LCSC offered were a perfect fit for me and allowed me the flexibility that I needed to finish my Bachelor’s degree and still be able to care for my family.
Education has always held an important place in my life as it represents freedom. Freedom to have choices. Freedom to give my kids the life I never had. Freedom to be independent of others. Through the great reputation that LCSC has in the Coeur d’ Alene community, I was able to secure an internship in my field of study at Magnuson, McHugh & Co. I am pleased to say that seven weeks into my internship I was hired as a full-time, permanent Staff Accountant. Through hard work and determination, I am realizing my dreams of being a Certified Public Accountant. This dream would not have been possible if LCSC didn’t offer the business program that they do with top notch instructors such as Scott Paxton, Scot Haug, Michelle Sotka, and John Hael. Through my educational experience I not only walked away with my degree, but I also walked away with close relationships with both my instructors and many of the administrative staff in Coeur d’ Alene. You walked side by side with me through my journey and I will hold onto those positive memories for the rest of my life. Thank you.”
